Covering COVID-19 for Consumer Reports


Consumer Reports' amazing Survey Research Team has been polling Americans about COVID-19 concerns since the onset of the pandemic and engaged DGFX Studio to visualize the findings and deliver timely and insightful social media ready assets.

In order to underscore the quality of this rich nationally-representative data, we decided to compare the share of Americans that were "very concerned' about COVID-19 spread to real on-the-ground case numbers at national and regional levels. To do so, we forked Johns Hopkins raw COVID-19 data and used javascript data analysis to engineer national and regional daily new cases per capita series, as well as rolling 7-day averages. The results show a stunning almost real-time correlation between COVID fears and the fact on the ground.


Considering how much attention the role of COVID-19 misinformation gets in the pandemic, we were proud to have worked on a data story just how important facts are to what Americans really believe. Whether as an instagram carousel or in animated GIFs on Twitter, this contetn has made waves in the national conversation about COVID-19.
